Sony a7R V: Plan Your High-Resolution Photo Workflow

What You're Buying

The Sony a7R V, model ILCE-7RM5, is an E-mount mirrorless camera body with an approximately 61-megapixel full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor. Haiven's listing is for the body; choose a compatible lens separately rather than assuming a kit lens is included.

How It Works

The camera records RAW, JPEG and HEIF still images. Sony offers compressed, lossless-compressed and uncompressed RAW options. Choose a format that your editing software supports before an important shoot, and test your import and backup routine.

Both card slots accept compatible SD cards or CFexpress Type A cards. Recording requirements vary by mode, so check Sony's media guidance before choosing cards, particularly for video.

Why We Chose It

High resolution is useful when a photograph needs room for cropping or detailed output. It also makes careful focus, lens choice and camera stability worthwhile. More pixels alone do not guarantee a sharp photograph.

What Sets It Apart

The combination of a high-resolution full-frame sensor, several RAW options and two multi-format card slots gives photographers choices about capture and file handling. These are practical features to evaluate against the way you actually shoot.

Before committing to a setup, check your lens coverage, card reader and available storage. Keep a separate backup of important photographs rather than relying on a single memory card.

Why We Recommend It

Consider this body when detailed still photography is a priority and you are prepared to manage the resulting files. If your main output is small web images, first decide whether the extra resolution will meaningfully help your work.
