▍What You’re Buying
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 is an instant camera for making small photographs you can hold, give away or add to an album. It uses Fujifilm Instax Mini film, with a picture area of 62 × 46 mm.
Its appeal is straightforward: frame a moment, press the shutter and keep the resulting print. For gatherings, travel journals or a collection of everyday memories, that physical format can be part of the enjoyment.
▍How It Works
Twist the lens to turn the camera on. A further twist selects Close-Up Mode for subjects 30–50 cm away, including selfies. The mirror beside the lens helps you line up a self-portrait, while the close-up viewfinder correction helps with framing.
Exposure and flash brightness adjust automatically. After the film ejects, the picture takes approximately 90 seconds to develop, depending on the surrounding temperature. The camera runs on two AA alkaline batteries.
▍Why We Chose It
The Mini 12 keeps the controls approachable. Automatic exposure reduces the settings a new user needs to manage, and the dedicated close-up position gives a clear starting point for portraits at arm’s length.
It is particularly easy to understand as a shared activity: a photograph becomes a small keepsake that someone can take home.
▍What Sets It Apart
- Close-up framing: use the marked mode within its 30–50 cm range.
- Instax Mini format: compact prints fit naturally into small albums and creative projects.
- Simple operation: automatic exposure and flash adjustment keep the shooting process short.
There are practical limits. The flash fires with every shot, so consider whether flash photography suits the place you will use it. Each exposure uses a sheet of film, making film an ongoing cost. Fujifilm lists film as sold separately; check the exact Haiven package before assuming a film pack is included.

▍Why We Recommend It
Choose the Mini 12 if you enjoy the process of making and sharing a physical photograph and are comfortable budgeting for film. Before buying, think about how often you will use it, where you will keep the prints and whether its always-on flash fits your plans.
